About Us

Metropolitan Coffee was the dream of Nick Page and Gretchen Smith along with their parents Jim and Barbara Didlo. In 2002 they created an inviting atmosphere with comfortable seating and a slightly art deco feel where you could enjoy a quality espresso drink with friends.

In August of 2008, Jim and Myra Kitson purchased the shop and have continued the tradition of quality drinks and pastries in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We're passionate about continuing the tradition of quality and contributing to that are our knowledgeable baristas.

Art on the walls from local artists brings life to the shop at 17th and Lorraine and changes monthly. On Friday and Saturday evenings you'll often find music and the last Sunday of the month is swing dance night. Visitors to the shop can also enjoy a magazine or book from our shelves or play one of the provided games with friends.

New in 2016

A second location was added to the Metropolitan Coffee family in July of 2016. Located at 15 West 2nd in the downtown Wiley District, this location offers drive thru and walk up options. It's an easy swing off of Main and 2nd with the drive thru accessed from Washington street between 1st and 2nd. Hours are from 6:30am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday and Saturday mornings from 8:00am until noon! Catch that great Metro flavor without having to get out of your car!

Our Espresso Drinks

Our house espresso is specially blended for the straight shot by a wonderful micro-roastery in Laramie, Wyoming. It is rich and sweet, and so full of character and body that the thick, deep créma lingers all the way to the bottom of your cup.

Our menu features both hot and cold espresso drinks with the shop's signature cold drink - the Bean Freeze. The Bean Freeze is a combination of white chocolate and caramel blended with ice and gently cold-brewed espresso, topped with whipped cream. You can also flavor the Bean Freeze with any of our other syrups.

Our drip coffees are the wonderful blends from Crimson Cup, Roast Magazine's 2016 Roaster of the Year. The house coffee is the Metro Blend, a compilation of coffees from Central America, Indonesia and Africa chosen for their individual flavor characteristics (medium roast). We also brew a variety of light and dark roasts throughout the week to provide customers with a broad experience of coffees.

In the mood for a pour over or aeropress? Ask the barista which coffee they have been enjoying lately.

Other Drinks, Pastries and Soup

Not in the mood for an espresso drink or coffee? Explore our variety of organic loose leaf teas and bagged teas along with tasty Big Train smoothies.

Our pastries are headlined by our two-layer carrot cake. We also offer a variety of pastries baked from scratch on-site on a daily basis.

Fall through spring, Metropolitan serves up a variety of soups during the lunch hour. Chicken Tortilla and Cheddar Baked Potato are favorites. All soups are available in large cappuccino mugs or to-go with the option to add a tasty, small loaf of bread.
