It all started when…

The dream of Nick Page and Gretchen Smith, along with their parents Jim and Barbara Didlo, came to fruition with Metropolitan Coffee. In 2002 they created a cozy and inviting atmosphere with comfortable seating and an eclectic art deco feel where you could enjoy a quality espresso drink with friends.

In August of 2008, Jim and Myra Kitson purchased the shop and have continued the tradition of quality drinks and pastries in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with the help of their son and daughter-in-law. The Kitson family is passionate about continuing the tradition of quality in local business.

Art on the walls from local artists brings life to the shop at 17th and Lorraine and changes monthly. On Friday and Saturday evenings you'll often find live music playing, or the occasional poetry night! Visitors to the shop can also enjoy a magazine or book from our shelves or play one of the provided games with friends.

A second location was added to the Metropolitan Coffee family in July of 2016. Located at 15 West 2nd in the downtown Wiley District, this location offers drive thru and walk up options. It's an easy swing off of Main and 2nd with the drive thru entrance located across the street from the Farmer’s Market on Washington street between 1st and 2nd. Now you can catch that great Metro flavor without having to get out of your car!

Our Espresso Drinks

Our house espresso is specially blended for the straight shot by a wonderful micro-roastery in Laramie, Wyoming. It is rich and sweet, and so full of character and body that the thick, deep créma lingers all the way to the bottom of your cup.

Our menu features both hot and cold espresso drinks with the shop's signature cold drink - the Bean Freeze. The Bean Freeze is a combination of white chocolate and caramel blended with ice and gently cold-brewed espresso, topped with whipped cream.

Our drip coffees are the primarily single origin coffees from Crimson Cup, Roast Magazine's 2016 Roaster of the Year. The house coffee is the Metro Blend, a compilation of coffees from Central America, Indonesia and Africa chosen for their individual flavor characteristics (medium roast). We also brew a variety of light and dark roasts throughout the week to provide customers with a broad experience of coffees.

In the mood for a pour over or Aeropress? Ask the barista which coffee they have been enjoying lately.

Other Drinks and pastries

Not in the mood for an espresso drink or coffee? Explore our variety of organic loose leaf teas and bagged teas along with our smoothies, cremosas, or frozen lemonades. We even carry Kombucha on tap at our 17th Ave location, thanks to Inspirit Kombucha Brewing Co.

We bake our pastries each day, in house, from scratch. Our muffins and scones are sure to delight, and our brownies and cookies will satisfy any sweet tooth.

We also offer breakfast burritos (including a vegan option), all of which are made in house of course. As well as a selection of oatmeal from Straw Propeller, gluten-free, vegan PureFit Nutrition Bars, and also gf, vegan Off The Farm Energy Bars.
